A new winter circuit for pony riders

      lundi, 19 décembre, 2016

The lack of pony competitions during the winter season led the FEI to launch the FEI World Pony Jumping Trophy: a brand new circuit dedicated to pony riders.

Unlike horse World Cup events, this circuit will last the entire year as only riders under the age of sixteen are allowed to participate in international pony competitions.

The competition will feature two classes: a warm-up class (speed) to allow couples to adapt to the arena and environment, and then a 1m35 qualification class with a jump off.

The first edition will take place at the Mechelen Christmas Horse Show from December 26 to 30, and will count for the 2017 season. The second round will be held in the Netherlands during the Dutch Masters (Brabant Horse Show). Then, the circuit will resume after summer and end in December with a final round comprising the top ranked couples.

Only two riders of the five best nations of the last European Championships will be selected. Moreover, the FEI and the organizers have the possibility to award three Wild Cards each; they for instance gave two French riders the opportunity to compete in the next edition.

The goal of this initiative from the FEI is not only to let riders enjoy great facilities, but also to give them the opportunity to ride in front of the large public of these great events.
